Before-and-after

This image is a photo illustration. Move your mouse onto and off of it to see a direct "before-and-after" comparison with the original photograph. This shows how I can compensate for less-than-ideal conditions at the time of a site visit, through the use of various digital techniques. In this instance, my goal was to tell a story about this building: "It's a beautiful morning. Let's go flying!" Because this view is to the west, and to avoid brilliant reflections off the windows and aluminum trim (it was important to show interior details through the windows), I had to make this photo shortly before sunrise. I chose a sky (from my personal collection of sky images) that had the right character and which composed well around the elements of the building, then reduced its contrast and warmed it up to harmonize with the early-morning colors. Then, I "cloned" a bit of the sky into the distant trees and ground to add depth (as one might see in the damp early-morning air), and eliminated unwanted power lines and marks on the driveway and curb. The perspective I chose for this image emphasizes the "speedy" sweeps of the building and driveway, in order to suggest motion, and I backed off enough from the building to show some of the tarmac and surrounding structures, for context.
